A lottery ticket worth 36 million US dollars (33.17 million euros) expired in Florida after the winner failed to claim the prize within the 180-day deadline. The ticket was for the Mega Millions lottery.

A lottery player in Florida missed out on potentially the biggest jackpot of their life. The winning ticket, purchased at a supermarket in Jacksonville, correctly matched the numbers 8, 39, 42, 57, 63, and the Mega Ball 7. The chance of winning the Mega Millions jackpot was one in 320 million.

Unclaimed Lottery Winnings in Norway

Similarly, in Norway, there have been instances of unclaimed lottery prizes. In April 2017, a Lotto 6 out of 49 ticket worth 11.3 million euros went unclaimed in Baden-Württemberg. Efforts to locate the winner were unsuccessful, and the money was eventually donated to charitable causes. In another case, a 1 million euro prize from the BayernMillionen lottery was not claimed, leading to the money being transferred to a charitable fund.

Despite extensive efforts by the Florida lottery to find the winner, including a public appeal, no one came forward to claim the prize. 20% of the unclaimed winnings will go back into the Mega Millions jackpot, while the remaining 80% will be donated to charitable causes in the US.
