WPBSA Revokes Michael White’s Snooker License

Background:

The WPBSA has immediately revoked the snooker license of 33-year-old Welsh player Michael White. Last week, White was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to physically assaulting his partner on two occasions.

WPBSA’s Action:

The World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association (WPBSA) and the WST released a statement on July 11 confirming White’s 36-month prison sentence. Following this, White was swiftly removed from the association and the WST world rankings. He has the right to appeal this decision within 21 days.

Case Details:

White confessed to multiple incidents of domestic violence, resulting in two separate sentences of 17 and 19 months each, along with a small fine. A third charge of attempted strangulation was dropped due to lack of evidence. The court found that White had physically attacked his partner over more than a year.

Career Decline:

Once a rising star in snooker, White’s career took a nosedive after winning two ranking tournaments. He struggled to maintain his performance, leading to a drop in the world rankings. To make ends meet, he took on a job as a delivery driver.

Appeal Possibility:

Despite being granted the opportunity to appeal the decision, White’s chances of regaining his snooker license appear slim due to his conviction for a violent offense.
