Lotto Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Warns of Phone Scams

German lottery provider Lotto Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has issued a warning regarding fraudulent phone calls. Scammers posing as lottery representatives aim to pressure recipients into making payments and divulging sensitive customer data and payment information.

Phone Scammers Pretend to Offer Fake Lottery Subscriptions

Lotto Mecklenburg-Vorpommern cautions against scammers pretending to unknowingly sign recipients up for a lottery subscription over the phone. These criminals claim to be employees of Lotto Mecklenburg-Vorpommern or a lottery headquarters.

They inform recipients of long-term lottery subscriptions for games like 6 out of 49 and Spiel 77, involving monthly payments via bank account debit. While offering to cancel the subscription immediately for a one-time payment to avoid recurring charges, individuals are advised not to make any payments or share personal data with the scammers.

No Phone Contact Policy by Lotto Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Lotto Mecklenburg-Vorpommern asserts its policy of not making phone contact with lottery players to discuss contractual matters, collect player data, or process cancellations. All such communication is strictly conducted in writing, including changing bank details, and it is strongly advised against sharing sensitive information with unknown callers.

Lottery Phone Scams in Other German States

Similarly, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate has also experienced fraudulent phone calls regarding alleged lottery subscriptions in recent years. The Rhineland-Palatinate Consumer Center warned against scammers demanding amounts between 70€ and 90€ to cancel supposed lottery subscriptions. In addition to fake lottery subscriptions, victims may be promised large lottery winnings over the phone, requiring advance payments for various reasons.

It is crucial to refrain from making payments or sharing personal data over the phone. For any inquiries, lottery players are encouraged to contact the customer service of German lottery providers directly.
