The UK Gambling Commission has fined the gambling provider Gamesys 6 million GBP (7 million euros) for failures in social responsibility and anti-money laundering (AML). The violations were discovered during a compliance assessment in May 2022. Gamesys will also be subjected to further checks to ensure compliance. According to the commission, Gamesys did not adequately question the source of its players’ funds and allowed higher deposits and withdrawals than permitted. A personal statement from the Executive Director of Operations of the UK Gambling Commission emphasized the need for fair and safe gambling practices.

Established in 2001, Gamesys is one of the largest gambling providers in the UK, operating 16 gambling sites and acquiring Virgin Games in 2013. In 2019, it was acquired by the JPJ Group and rebranded as Gamesys Group.

In 2019, Gamesys was fined 1.2 million GBP for similar violations. Police have proven that the company allowed individuals with problematic gambling behaviors to continue playing. Similarly, the gambling provider Lindar Media and the William Hill Group were also fined for social responsibility and anti-money laundering failures in recent years.

The UK Gambling Commission’s consistent penalization of major gambling providers underscores the need for stringent compliance measures in the industry.
