Tribute to Paul Gauselmann by Novomatic Founder

Prof. Johann Graf honors Paul Gauselmann on his 90th birthday by gifting him a bronze sculpture of the god Mercury, displayed at the Schlossplatz in Espelkamp. Graf’s gesture is a token of appreciation towards Gauselmann for his contributions.

Acknowledging Gauselmann’s Legacy

Prof. Johann Graf, founder of Novomatic AG, recognizes Paul Gauselmann’s achievements as an entrepreneur and founder of the Merkur Group. To mark Gauselmann’s retirement, a bronze sculpture of the flying Mercury was presented to him in Espelkamp.

Mutual Respect in the Gaming Industry

Despite being long-time competitors in the gambling sector, Graf and Gauselmann exchanged well wishes. Gauselmann appreciated the unique gift and found it fitting for the company’s history and current situation.

Beyond Competition: Novomatic and Merkur

Novomatic and Merkur, prominent global gambling companies, operate in various countries, including Norway. Merkur recently opened its first betting office in Duisburg, enhancing its presence in the market.

Both companies also hold German online casino licenses, offering legal online slot games to German players. Additionally, Merkur’s Edict eGaming brand provides gaming systems for both land-based and online casinos worldwide.

Collaboration Amid Competition

In a surprising move, Merkur and Novomatic collaborated on the operations of the Spielbank Berlin. This partnership followed a history of competition between the two companies in the casino industry.

Merkur’s recent acquisition of the Casinos Austria International as the operator of the Niedersachsen casinos solidifies its commitment to expanding its gaming portfolio.

Novomatic’s Impressive Financial Milestone

Novomatic achieved a significant profit increase, reaching €274 million in the past year. Prof. Johann Graf benefitted the most, receiving €50 million from the dividend payout, reflecting the company’s success under his leadership.
